BURUNDANGA BORICUA DEL ZOCOTROCO 01.01.17 “LA GRAN FALACIA”

La Burundanga Boricua es un fenómeno sumamente complejo, requiere todo tipo de abordaje y aproximación que pretenda desenmarañar esta difícil realidad de lo que somos  y lo que nos gustaría ser; máximo cuando somos un pueblo intervenido, dividido, apasionado e intenso. A esta discusión perenne se añade el documental de Paco Vázquez, con una perspectiva, que amplía el  prisma con que podemos vernos a nosotros mismos.

Paco Vázquez se inició como fotógrafo independiente, con una trayectoria que incluye colaboraciones con El Nuevo Día, Target Group, el Hospital Cardiovascular (donde filmo el primer trasplante boricua) y Puerto Rican Cement. Tiempo y experiencias que  conducen a  la pasión por hacer películas. Insistencia que cobra cuerpo primero en The Red Cillindrium, un cortometraje premiado en Dallas y Nueva York, que conduce a una trayectoria de anuncios televisivos, videos musicales y corporativos e infomerciales. La Gran Falacia es su primer largo documental, tras créditos en The Wrong Hit (2004) y luego en Niños Sicarios en (2015).

La película de una hora con 27 minutos de duración es una realización de So be it Films, apoyada por la Fundación Manrique Cabrera y la Fundación para el Mejoramiento del Karma de Puerto Rico. Ha participado en el International Puerto Rican Heritage Film Festival, el Rincón International Film Festival y obtuvo la distinción del Mejor Película en Español del Sunscreen Festival (20013).

La denuncia es eminentemente anticolonialista, con un tema incipiente de animales de ordeño, que se repite dictado por  el contenido. Por la pantalla comparece  un grupo amplio de figuras conocidas que aportan su visión a asuntos cruciales como:  la democracia, el voto, la  corrupción, el fascismo corporativo, la toma del poder judicial, la destitución de la Procuradora Del Envejeciente, la Ley 7, los despidos de empleados de gobierno, la alteración de leyes laborales en detrimento de derechos adquiridos, las huelgas y manifestaciones. La evidencia es amplia para documentar el atropello  y la  consecuencia en un país empobrecido, que pierde su población más apta.

Se aborda la economía y  el estancamiento; la figura Muñoz,  la Operación Manos a al Obra y el Estado Libre Asociado, el pacto con la industria automotriz, la construcción de carreteras,, la entrega de Culebra y Vieques, los experimentos  con medias anticonceptivas sin consentimiento y la con radiación y cáncer del Doctor Cornelius Rhodes.

La Teoría del Caos propone un esquema explicativo a la situación vigente, con una atribución de responsabilidad y causa tajante que requiere una reingeniería social y política a fondo. El análisis de la personalidad antisocial aplicado a la política local es uno de las instancia en que la cinta me resulto particularmente punzante. Igual fija responsabilidad en un cada cual que critica y no hace nada como cómplices de la Burundanga vigente.

Y si el camino es algo sinuoso en su marcha, tampoco esta carente de propuestas para combatir la programación a que estamos expuestos: reconocer que algo anda mal, intentar entender sin las falacias de la televisión, cuidar la salud y la nutrición, enaltecer la ambición, consolidar el amor propio, ser honesto y creativo, junto al llamado a sanar y respetar. Una propuesta válida a la que con entusiasmo me suscribo. Para cerrar con la famosa y emotiva canción Verde Luz, que nos explica con toda claridad lo inevitable de vivir enamorado de esta Isla.

A juicio de este observador, el filme se ajusta a una concepción postmodernista en que la lógica secuencial es secundaria al contenido de las partes. Y en hora y media son muchas las partes, montadas con gusto y medida sobre música y sonido que acentúan los afectos y los mensajes que presenta. La conjunción entre los testimonios que comparecen a la vista y las reflexiones filosóficas que intercala el narrador me pareció una forma ingeniosa de añadir resonancia a la película. Un esfuerzo que se suma a la noble tarea de encontrar sentido a nuestra Burundanga.

LATINOPIA WORD JOSÉ MONTOYA “PACHUCO PORTFOLIO”

José Montoya is a renowned poet, artist and activist who has been in the forefront of the Chicano art movement.
