Unincorporated territory
Limbo of ambiguity
A colony of an empire
monumental contradiction
to democracy and the constitution.
Searching for an antidote to frustration
I try to turn adversity and aggravation
Into motivational inspiration.
First the Spanish conquistadores
Abusive despots
slave traders
exploiters.
With cannon fire and guns
Arrived the second coming of colonizers
with promises of civility and a Manifest Destiny
that allowed the right to take over
the sea, the land, the sky
the rainbow and all it’s colors.
Tainos
Spaniards
Slaves
Creole
Boricuas
Northamerican.
Country or nation?
Citizen or patriot?
Five centuries subjected.
Place in a map.
Pawn in a chess
where to extract wealth.
Five hundred and some years
to be or not to be
this we are
is still the dilemma
oppressive problema.
Unincorporated territory
Limbo of ambiguity
A colony of an empire
monumental contradiction
to democracy and the constitution.
Military force up front
law following to validate
the contradiction
Colonial rule
the most favoring condition
To extract wealth
and assure best rate of return.
Lies, deceit, manipulation
a glimpse of autonomy
today crumbles to dispair.
Greed, opportunism, ambition
Ineptitude, irresponsibility
breeding corruption.
If lies lead to anger
deceit to disillusion
the spirit soars with indignation
at the impunity of those responsible.
White collar criminals
elusive delinquents
escape artists.
With the urgency of cost and loss
in total disregard to what it means
Congress sends a Fiscal Board
appointed to balance accounts
and squeeze payment
on impoverished people
a depressed economy.
With total disregard for our government
less for our institutions
A take over
un golpe de estado
a severe blow
a frontal provocation.
Unincorporated territory
Limbo of ambiguity
A colony of an empire
monumental contradiction
to democracy and the constitution.
