BURUNDANGA BORICUA DEL ZOCOTROCO 8.26.23 ALCANZANDO LA BELLEZA

Mi hermana mayor Helga siempre mostró inclinación por las artes,

Como la mayoría de los mortales, confieso una inmensa curiosidad por la creación humana, en todas sus manifestaciones, la divina es otro asunto. Ese proceso que desencadena una idea o un sentimiento que se convierte, a veces en melodía, a veces en verso, estatua o pintura, incluso edificios y estructuras que responden más que al motivo funcional, al estético, o sea el propósito alcanzar belleza, tan sujeta al ojo del espectador.Tengo la inmensa fortuna de ser testigo de unos de esos procesos de manera muy intima.

Mi hermana mayor Helga, que tiene cumplidos los 85, desde que recuerdo siempre mostró inclinación por las artes, clase temprano de pintura y música no sirvieron para encausar un talento que se fue inicialmente por el sendero de la palabra, luego de la imagen. Primero fue editora de libros y textos en Harcourt, Brace y Jovanovich en Nueva York, estudió cine y televisión siendo parte del grupo seminal del Childrens Television Workshop que hizo historia con Sesame Street y sus derivados.

De regreso a Puerto Rico colaboro estrechamente con Jacobo Morales y Nicolás y los Demás, así como con agencias de publicidad y televisión, hasta que se hizo un nicho con La Era de Ahora: el periódico de buenas noticias que editö a pulmón por mas de una década. Su espíritu imbatible no da tregua a la fragilidad de su cuerpo, ni responde a los achaques y dolores que le conceden rango formal de impedida. Para nada.

Inspirado por el trabajo mural de Bartus en Adjuntas, hace unos años acordamos hacer un mural de mosaicos en el patio de mi casa, siempre con el recuerdo del Park Guel en Barcelona y el uso que da Antoni Gaudi a el ensamblaje de fragmentos y piezas. Algo se hablo en el tiempo de esos sueños que todos alentamos, que siempre responden a una buena intención pero encuentran difícil el camino a la realización. Hasta que lo encuentran.

El concepto pictórico se fue cuajando, poco a poco, pieza a pieza, cristal a cristal.

El concepto pictórico se fue cuajando, no con contundencia inicial sino poco a poco, pieza a pieza, cristal a cristal. Y así fue tomando forma lo que he optado por llamar un paisaje abstracto, pleno en color, poderoso en formas y movimiento. Por la llana razón de que la obra se realizó en el patio de mi casa, he sido testigo de todo el proceso, la dedicación y el esfuerzo que conlleva la excelencia para que además de ser correcto sea bello.

Doy fe que cada cristalito se pegó y acomodó con deliberada intención; se trabajó con pega, lechada y resinas para que lograse el efecto de conjunto y composición que la obra tiene. Me consta que la belleza radica en el ojo del observador y que en el arte hay el margen de subjetividad, pero a mi me parece extraordinaria, más aun conociendo el sudor y la sangre que requirió (no creo que lagrimas) pues se hizo en el mes de Agosto que cumple con infernal y por encima de cortaduras, achaque de cintura y rodillas que le justifican el carnet de impedida.

Tengo mucha suerte, cuento con una hermana que a sus 85 anos, después de evidencia indiscutible de su espíritu compasivo y servicial, de hacer patente su creatividad y talento, ha hecho explicito que es una artista, con evidencia irrefutable. Move over Georgia O’Keefe que viene Helga Umpierre.

LATINOPIA WORD JOSÉ MONTOYA “PACHUCO PORTFOLIO”

José Montoya is a renowned poet, artist and activist who has been in the forefront of the Chicano art movement.
