This month Mark Guerrero welcomes René Ornelas of the sixties music duo René and René to Chicano Music Chronicles. René and René is the awesome Latino pop duo whose hits Angelito (1964) and Lo Mucho Que Te Quiero (1969) peaked on the national Billboard 100 Chart. Originally from Laredo , Texas, René Ornelas (born August 26, 1936) and René Herrera (born October 2, 1935) were among the first Chicano artists to perform on American Bandstand (August 8, 1964). They went on to perform for many years after their initial hits. They were later inducted into the Tejano Music Hall of Fame in 1990 and the Tejano ROOTS Hall of Fame in 2001. Rene Herrera passed away in 2005 but René Ornelas continues to perform under the name “René René.”
Mark Guerrero’s in-depth interview with René about how the duo came together and the success of their hit songs will air every night this month of December at 7PM on the Chicano Music Network (CMN). Just click onto the Latinopia/Music Chornicles thumbnail , sit back and enjoy!
