Bienvenido otra vez a La Voz Newspaper.
He graduate the year I was just a freshman but I remember him in the hallways. Everyone knew he was an up and coming boxer. He carried himself well and if you got up early you would see him jogging and working out in the community. He would later go on to win world boxing championships in various weight categories, We were very proud to be able to say we knew Oscar. Even my sister Molly Ann knew Oscar and recalls the time he saw walking to school and stopped to offer her a ride in his black Chevrolet Camaro. She accepted and he took her all the way to the front of the high school.
I remember years later seeing him walking the streets in Uvalde. The constant blows to the body and head had taken their toll but he would still stop and say hello. He was always a very polite person. Read his story which is by his older brother Evaristo and I am sure you will agree, Oscar “Shogun” Albarado was someone you would have been proud to call your friend.
Another story we would like to call to your attention is on pages 14 and 15. This innovative business coaching program helps individuals realize their dream of being self employed. We wish to thank Monica Peña for her assistance in helping us to showcase this great project.
On page 17 you will find the nomination form for the Austin Hispanic Hall of Fame project. The window closes this month for Round Two. Why is this project important? The answer is easy. There are so many people who have come before us who have opened doors and created opportunities. Many have now passed on. But their memory still remains for some of us. We believe that more people should know who these people were. That is why we have created the Austin Hispanic Hall of Fame. Nominate
someone! Es todo!
