Empezamos by calling to your attention the cover for September. I saw this young man on American’s Got Talent a few weeks ago and man did he make an impression. Se llama Eduardo Treviño y vive en la area de Houston. He has been singing since he was three and is now eleven years old. Later this month he will on America’s Got Talent in the finals. Check him out!

We are sad to report the passing of Bill Richardson from New Mexico. He was a giant in the Democratic Party and leaves behind a legacy as an Ambassador, Diplomat and former Governor of New Mexico. He was 75 years old. Also passing at the age of 75 is Peter Gonzales Falcon from La Pryor, Texas. A graduate of Uvalde High School Peter became a successful actor especially in Italy with the famous director Fellini. Peter was in the process of going home to La Pryor when he passed away unexpectedly.

As many of you may know, the scandal in San Antonio, Texas over the last several weeks has do with a poem that was released by Nephtali De Leon, the Poet Laureate of San Antonio. Well he is now the ex-poet laureate because he dared to include a long ago word that some considered to be a slur to the black community. People came swinging in both directors over the appropriateness of the word and tried a variety of arguments both pro and con. After speaking with a good friend and business partner from Uvalde, we decided to throw our two
pennies into the ring. You can find out commentary on page 9.

On September 20-22, 2023, there will big a major symposium on the historian Carlos Castañeda at UT, Austin.
He is the one who did extensive research on Catholics in Texas and a multi-volume set on the history and development of the faith. On page 14 you will find a plug for J.R. Gonzales Podcast on Latino businesses.
He has don 74 so far and each one is both intriguing and inspiring. Check it out.
Also deserving of your attention is Blanton Art Museum Cardenas/Garcia collection. Together this couple
has placed their collection of over 5,000 pieces to the museum. And lastly we want to call to your attention the new book by Dr. Jesus Jesse Esparza on the San Felipe School District and what happened to it in 1971.
