THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: CHRISTOPHER CARMONA CHISPAS AND CHRISTOPHER CARMONA, MÁS CHISPAS. RICARDO ROMO ON DAY OF THE DEAD IN SAN ANTONIO AND TEATRO DE LA TIERRA PERFORMS “LIBERTAD.”
We continue our celebration of Day of the Dead with Ricardo Romo’s Tejano Report on how the annual event is celebrated in San Antonio, Texas. Romo has gone all over San Antonio and gotten great shots of the altars at La Gloria and Rosario’s restaurants, St Anthony’s School and the Pearl. Check it all out!
Also this week, we showcase the poetry of South Texas poet and novelist Christopher Carmona. Este vato se avienta con las palabras! He attended a recent floricanto gathering at the home of fellow poet Thelma Reyna where he read from his latest collection of poems, Chispas (Sparks). Latinopia was there to record his reading which we post as Chispas and Más Chispas.
And also this week we repost a performance by members of El Teatro de la Tierra based in Fresno, California. They perform an original song, Libertad! (Freedom!). And yes, that’s Augie (Augustín) Lira, one of the founding members of El Teatro Campesino.
Enjoy your week on Latinopia!
