Salvador “Queso” Torres is an artist and muralist and one of the founders of Chicano Park. In 1970 the community of Logan Heights took over the underpass of the Coronado Bridge in San Diego and converted it into a park. The vaulting cement pillars holding up the bridge became the canvas on which community artists painted dozens of murals. Here, Salvador Torres, who grew up in Logan Heights, recalls the police harassment he and other Chicanos experienced when he was a young man in his remembrance , “The Eyes.”
