Every Christmas Diane Velarde Hernández celebrates, as do many Latinos, with the making of tamales. This tradition of friends and family working together to make tamales is known as “La Tamalada.”

The Librotraficantes Banned Book Caravan left Houston, Texas on March 12, 2012. After stops in San Antonio and El Paso, Texas, and Albuquerque , New Mexico, the caravan was ready to set out on the final leg of its journey to deliver censored books to the high school students of Tucson, Arizona.

Congratulations, on a concise, and articulate presentation of the tamale tradition that we all hold so dear to our hearts. You and your family have so graciously brought back what might be a lost art to so many of our generation that would otherwise only be a childhood memory. I see this video the first of many that will take Mexican/Chicano cooking to a whole new level!
