In 1930, the all-white school board of Lemon Grove, California voted to build a separate schoolhouse for children of Mexican descent. This provoked a community response, a boycott of the “Mexican school,” and a lawsuit by Mexican parents that led to the first successful desegregation court decision in US history. Latinopia is proud to showcase this excerpt from the docu-drama, “The Lemon Grove Incident,” written and produced by Paul Espinosa and directed by Frank Christopher. The excerpt is posted on Latinopia.com by permission.
