In the late 1960s Latinos became more aware of how Hollywood was depicting them negatively and in stereotypical manner. Ray Andrade, an ex-Marine and prize fighter turned actor, became aware of these unjust depictions and created an organization to combat them. In 1969, Justicia was created to improve the image of Latinos in motion pictures and television. It resulted in an industry wide awareness that resulted in programs like Chico and the Man.
