In 1970, the City of San Diego reneged on its promise to allow the citizens of Logan Heights, a historic Chicano barrio, to utilize land under the recently completed Coronado Bridge to build a community park. The citizens of Logan heights responded by physically taking over the land and occupying it for 12 days, forcing the city to relent and honor its promise. Since then the community and Latino artists have gone further, creating dozens of murals on the pillars of the park.
