Latinopia Events 1972 Raza Unida Convention from Latinopia.com on Vimeo.
In 1969, a third American political party, whose membership was predominantly Mexican American, was founded in Crystal City, Texas. By 1972, the new party, La Raza Unida (The United People), had chapters throughout the United States. In September, 1972, national leaders of the party convened a convention in El Paso, Texas. Though short-lived, the party put the Democratic and Republican parties on notice that the Mexican American vote was not to be taken for granted and led to massive voter registration drives.
