LATINOPIA EVENT RAMSEY MUÑIZ IN HIS OWN WORDS_1 from Latinopia.com on Vimeo.
Ramiro “Ramsey” Muñiz is a previously incarcerated Chicano activist who ran for Governor of Texas in 1972 and 1974. With Julian Castro having announced his candidacy for the 2020 Presidential election, Ramsey’s previous efforts at Latino voter empowerment remind us of the long journey for Latino political empowerment in America. Ramsey Muñiz was the first Latino surname ever to appear on the Texas gubernatorial electoral ballot. In this exclusive Latinopia archival video, Ramsey spoke about Latino political empowerment at the La Raza Unida political convention in El Paso, Texas in September of 1972.
