Ernesto Galarza (August 15, 1905 – June 22, 1984) was a Chicano labor organizer, activist, professor, poet, writer, storyteller, and a key figure in the history of immigrant farm workers in California. He founded the first union for American farm workers in 1947, a precursor to today’s United Farm Workers and was instrumental in abolishing the Bracero Program,a chief obstacles to union organizing in California and elsewhere.
