LATINOPIA EVENTS 1967 PUERTO RICO PLEBISCITE

Following the conclusion of the Spanish American War in 1898, the island of Puerto Rico became a colony of the United States. Since that time, Puerto Ricans have debated the best course for the island. Some wanting an independent nation, others wanting to align with the United States. Currently, Puerto Rico is a commonwealth. This status grew out of a plebiscite (vote of all the people) which took place in 1967. Here is what happened.
