Bert Corona was a pioneering Chicano labor, civil rights and immigrant rights leader who passed away in 2001. Throughout a labor activist career that goes back to the 1930s, he worked with nearly every major Chicano civil rights organization. He consistently championed the rights of workers and the Mexican American community. Early on, he organized workers for the Congress of Industrial Workers and later founded CASA, Centers for Autonomous Social Actions, an organization dedicated the rights of immigrant workers. He was known for his effusive and contagious energy, enthusiasm and optimism. In this “Moment inf Time” photographed by Jesús Treviño, Bert preaches the gospel of fair wages for workers and the right to unionize before an audience in the late 1990s.
