Abelardo “Lalo” Delgado (1930 – 2004) is one of the ground-breaking pioneers of Chicano poetry. A social activist as well as an author, he was as comfortable on a picket line or at a political rally as in a library. He wrote 14 books of poetry including the landmark “25 Pieces of a Chicano Mind.” In 1978 he won the Quinto Sol Literary Prize in Oakland, California. This rare archival footage is of Lalo reading a poem on the occasion of his receiving the Quinto Sol literary Prize.
