Enrique “Kiki” Castillo is an acclaimed actor of stage and screen and a director and dramatist and now a novelist. His novel, The Dead of Summer, takes on the theme of the vulnerability of immigrants crossing illegally into the United States and the dangers they face. In his novel, a women crossing the border is attacked and raped by a Border Patrol officer who also kills her two children. Enrique explains why he chose this theme and why the plight of immigrants needs more attention.
