Latinopia History Montoya on Pachucos from Latinopia.com on Vimeo.
In this excerpt from the documentary Visions of Aztlán, acclaimed poet and artist José Montoya recalls the scapegoating of Mexican American youth during the 1940s. During this time Mexican American youth, who called themselves Pachucos, were attacked and brutalized for wearing the stylized zoot suits. Montoya reads from his classic poem of vindication, “A Pachuco Portfolio.”
