Rolando Hinojosa Smith is a pioneering Chicano author of more than a dozen books. He has won numerous national and international awards including the prestigious Casa de las Américas award given to the best novel from the United States and all of Latin America. A veteran of the Korean War, he reads here from his novel “The Useless Servants” which is a fictional rendering of his true life experiences during the Korean conflict. In August of 1952, a decisive bridge along the Nakdong River was destroyed. Rolando was an eyewitness to the event and relates here in this reading.
