In the 1960s, Mexican American activists embraced the term “Aztlán,” to define a Mexican presence in the Southwestern United States. They knew that their Mexica ancestors had lived in Southwestern United States, a place called Aztlán, long before the United States was founded. Latinopia asked celebrated Chicano author Rudolfo Anaya what relevance Aztlán has for today’s generation of Mexican Americans.
