The American literary canon are the authors and their works who have been deemed over time to be the best of American literature. With few exceptions the canon has historically excluded diverse writers including Latinos. Carmen Tafolla is President of the Texas Institute of Letters, an organization which does recognize the full spectrum of American writers. Here Carmen speaks about why Latinos are often overlooked in the American literary canon and what can be done about it.
