THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: RICARDO ROMO ON THE LEGACY OF KELLY AIR FIELD, ELENA MINOR ON WRITING POETRY, ELENA MINOR READ FROM TITULADA, AND RAUL SALINAS ON “HAIL PACHUCO!”
Hola mi gente! This week Ricardo Romo delivers a thoughtful piece on the legacy of Kelly Air Field and how it provided jobs for a generation of Mexican Americans in South Texas which afforded them entry into the middle class. Wow, what one air base can do!
Also this week, we visit with poet and fiction writer Elena Minor in two Zoom videos. The first is Elena speaking about her fascination with language and about her style, which has been described as “experimental,” but which she prefers to label “exploratory. The second video is of Elena reading from her book of poetry, Titulada. Don’t miss this!
One of Elena’s poem is an elegy to poet Raul Salinas who passed away in 2008. We repost here a video of Raul reading his poem, “Hail Pachuco!”
Enjoy your week on Latinopia!
