Conjunto Hueyapan is a jarocho music group from Oxnard, California that was founded by Fermín Herrera in 1973. The jarocho music tradition from Veracruz replies on the interplay between the string instruments of the conjunto ensemble, the harp or harps and the jaranas (small four-string guitars) and the percussive heel-stomping dancing known as the zapateado. The conjunto Hueyapan demonstrate this musical fusion in their performance of the traditional son, “El Zapateado.”
