Carmen Tafolla is an acclaimed poet and playwright who was named Poet Laureate for the CIty of San Antonio, Texas in 2012. In her one-woman show she depicts an array of barrio personalities. Latinopia was at Trinity University when she performed her one-woman show on February 3, 2010. In this excerpt, “Tere,” she portrays a first-grader whose first day at school is not what she expected.
