Seventy-five Latino theater actors, directors and producers met in Boston Massachusetts in 2013 to discuss the future of Latino theater in the United States. They created the Latino Theater Commons, a national group devoted to advancing Latino theater, and planned their first major event, an “Encuentro,” a meeting of Latino theater companies and actors to stage performances of their works and to collaborate.The result was “Encuentro 2014.” Here, José Luis Valenzuela director of the Los Angeles Theater Center explains how “Encuentro 2014” came about.
