This week Mark Guerrero’s Chicano Music Chronicles features the music of Carmencristina Moreno, a multi-talented vocalist/actress whose voice and singing ability rivals singers like Joan Baez and Linda Ronstadt. She has recorded for Capitol, Epic, and Boardwalk Records and was honored with a National Endowment for the Arts award. Carmencristina comes from a musical family. Her parents, also singers, have toured extensively with the Mariachi Vargas de Tecatitlán, and performed with the legendary Mexican ranchera singer, Lucha Reyes. In 1976, Carmencristina was the first Mexican-American to represent the United States in the prestigious OTI (Organización de Televisión Iberoamericana) Festival in Acapulco. Her acting career has included roles in television dramas such as “Hickey & Boggs,” “Master Gunfighter,” and “Deal of the Century, “Knots Landing,” and “Baby Boom.” Check out Mark’s lively interview with Carmencristina about her career in music.
