Mark Guerrero interviews musician/author Harry Manaka, whose bands in the 1960s and early ’70s were part of a Japanese-American music scene which was happening at the same time as the “Golden Age” of East L.A.’s music scene of the same period on the other side of the L.A. River. These Asian-American groups were influenced by the music and culture of East L.A.’s bands. Manaka has a book out about the music scene he was a part of, “Chronicles of a Sansei Rocker.”
