THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: ALBERTO RIOS ON A CHICANO JULY FOURTH, MARGARITO GARCIA IN SEARCH OF BEING CHICANA/O, SERGIO HERNÁNDEZ ON THE CALIFORNIA HIGH SPEED RAIL, JULIO MEDINA’S SERENDIPITY, AND, OF COURSE, ANGELA’S PHOTO OF THE WEEK.”
You may have heard of the Fourth of July, but you probably never heard it from a unique Chicano perspective. Did you know that July 4th is also Dia de los Refugios? Check out celebrated Chicano poet Alberto “Tito” Rios as he recounts the special way in which he knows and remembers the 4th of July!
Also this week, Margarito Garcia continues in his quest to pin down just exactly who and what Chicanos are. A race? A people? A nomenclature? Margarito has his own ideas which he puts forth in his Blogero Sincero blog, “In Search of Being Chicano Part IV.” And our regular bloggers also respond. Julio Medina treats us to a vintage photo, “Assembly.” Sergio Hernández comments on the “California High Speed Rail,” and Angela Ortiz offers, “SEXY!”
Enjoy!
