NEW VIDEOS, NEW BLOGS, BUT THE SAME HIGH STANDARDS!
What up my Latinopian Peeps! Your Tia Tenopia here with a couple of new videos you’re going to love! In Music we visit again with the extraordinary jarocho group Conjunto Hueyapan. Founded by Fermín Herrera in 1973. This awesome group is composed of two generations of the Herrera clan. Although based in Oxnard, California, the group has performed throughout the United States and Mexico. They bring us another staple of the jarocho repertory, “El Ahualulco.” Just listen to this joyful music, you can’t help but tap your feet!
And, for something quite different, we offer a Latinopia Showcase of the webisode series Los Angeles Ward. Written and Produced by Jade Puga and Richard Montes, and directed by Richard Montes, this three-part series envisions a dystopian view of a Los Angeles future, or is it the present? Latinopia will be presented all three episodes in the next few weeks. We begin this week with episodes#1, “The Voiceless.” This is powerful drama and not for the squeamish–but check it out and you’ll find a world you didn’t know existed!
Also this week, we have a new Photo of the Week as well as new blogs by Luis Torres on Jackie Robinson and cultural memory and Don Felípe De Ortego with observations from New Mexico. In view of this week’s decision by the Associated Press to stop using the term “illegal immgriant” we have decided to repost Sara Calderon’s blog on the immigration debate. Check it out! And of course, a new episode in the on-going adventures of the Zombie Mex Diaries. Lots to enjoy this week on Latinopia!
