THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: CHICANOS & FÚTBOL, SANTA BARRAZA & NEPANTLA, ZOMBIE MEX DIARIES AND MORE!
This week we visit with Texas Chicana artist Santa Barraza. Long time arts advocate Santa’s imagery utilizes Pre-Columbian motifs in a post-modern rendering. A good example is her piece Nepantla which borrows from indigenous iconography but is embellished with her own unique symbolism. Check out the video as she explains her work.
Luis Torres returns with his blog Tales of Torres. This week he muses on the World Cup and soccer in general as it impacts Chicanos. Angela Ortiz has a new Photo of the Week, this one is titled ”Drop.” You’‘ll see why right away. And after our Fourth of July Zombie Mex Diary interlude, we return to the preparations for the battle of Amboy Crater. This week Pearl Gonzales reveals a startling discovery to Lazaro De La Tierra.
Enjoy this week on Latinopia!
