KIKO AND LA RAZA UNIDA BY THE LIGHT OF THE MOON!
Que’Hubo my peeps! Tia Tenopia here welcoming you to another great week of Latinopia. This week we’re really topical. In Music, we salute the reissue of the Los Lobos classic album, “Kiko” which first appeared twenty years ago! I remember hearing it when I was in pre-school 🙂 Anyway, the Kiko album as been reissued with many great features which you can check out at www.loslobos.org To celebrate the reissue of “Kiko,” Latinopia interviewed Louie Perez one of the song writers and the drummer for Los Lobos and he tells us how the original album came about. Check out this cool video!
Y hablando de historia. This week also marks the fortieth anniversary of the 1972 National Convention of the La Raza Unida Political party. Like many important and historic items you’ll find on Latinopia, it was before your Tia’s time. But that doesn’t mean it wasN’T important. In fact my Uncle Braulio says he attended the convention and that it was really something, historic and trend-setting. Anyway, this week many of the original participants to the convention are having a reunion in El Paso, Texas to commemorate 40 years of civil rights struggle. Latinopia will be attending the reunion and, in honor of the reunion, we post a Moment in Time photo from the convention and repost a video clip about the convention from Jesús Treviño’s the classic documentary La Raza Unida.
And in Cinema Showcase, we feature a visual poem by talented author and now videographer, Ricardo Lira Acuña. Check out this mesmerizing and evocative piece.
Bueno, I’ll let you get on with your Latinopia week.
Abrazos from your TT!
