RICKY LUV, LATINO AMERICANS, NAVY YARD SHOOTER AND MORE!
Hola Latinopians! Our two videos are in CINEMA and MUSIC. Ricardo Lira Acuña returns another of his Ricky Luv videos. This month’s poetic cinematic journey takes us to downtown Los Angeles where people are falling from skyscrapers! Check out The Wheel Grinds On.
And as you know this week saw the launch of the LATINO AMERICANS, a six-part documentary series broadcast nationally in September and October. Our second video this week visits with acclaimed music composer Joseph Julian Gonzalez who wrote the music for the Latino Americans Series. Joseph Julian has also written music for the earlier PBS documentary series Chicano! History of the Mexican American Civil Rights Movement and for the SHOWTIME drama series Resurrection Blvd. Check out Joseph Julian as he explains how his Latino heritage, combined with his extensive training in classical music, informs and shapes how he composes his music for films in HOW I COMPOSE MUSIC.
Also this week, our regular weekly bloggers return. Angela Ortiz has another Photo Of The Week, “On a Walk in Eagle Rock.” And Sergio Hernández weighs in on the tragedy of the Navy Yard Shooter. And if you’ve missed them, be sure to check out the recent blogs on Latinopia: Thinking Latina with Sara Inés Calderón, Political Salsa y Más with Sal Baldenegro, Bravo Road with Don Felipe De Ortego and Tales of Torres with Luis Torres.
Enjoy!
