THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: HAPPY NEW YEARS! REUNION DE COLEGAS ON 50 YEARS OF STRUGGLE, RICARDO ROMO ON LUIS JIMENEZ, LOS POCHOS WITH I SHOULD HAVE STAYED AT MARGIES AND SERGIO HERNANDEZ ON NEW YEAR’S WISHES.
Feliz Ano Nuevo to all! We celebrate the new year by looking back at fifty years of the struggle to form and shape Mexican American Studies in the United States. On December 9-12, 2021 a group of scholars, many of whom were founders of Mexican American Studies, met in Berkeley, California to review the progress in over fifty years of struggle. In Part One of 50 Years of Struggle, the scholars celebrate victories and identify areas that still need to be addressed. Next week watch for Fifty Years of Struggle Part Two.
Also this week, Ricard Romo returns with his Tejano Report. This week he look sat the work of the late sculptor and artist Luis Jimenez.
We round out this week with music from the group Los Pochos and their rendition of I Should Have Stayed at Margie’s.
And last but not least, the late Sergio Hernandez reaches out to us with his New Year’s wish for us all.
Enjoy your celebrations, no se pongan pisto, and looking forward to a great New Year!
