THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: TEJANO REPORT ON SONIA ROMERO AND RICHARD DUARDO, BURUNDANGA BORICUA ON IMPACT OF PUERTO RICO’S NEW PARTIES, SONIA ROMERO AT WORK AND SONIA ROMERO’S WESTLAKE MURAL
We start off the new year with a Tejano Report from Ricardo Romo on the legacy of the late Richard Duardo’s incredible printmaking which is part of the Estampas de la Raza art exhibit which is traveling across the United States. Complimenting the visionary work of the late Duardo are several of the print works by Sonia Romero. This is really beautiful stuff and reveals just how talented Duardo was.
Also this week we post two videos of Sonia Romero and her work. The first shows her woodcut technique as she works in her studio and the second shows off her incredible mural commissioned for the subway station in Los Angeles’s Westlake Park. Sonia talks about how she approached the mural, taking notes from the local people and activities in Westlake Park. Again, really beautiful work.
Also this week, José Umpierre’s Burundanga Boricua reports on the rise of new political parties in Puerto Rico. The import of these new parties is that they are swaying away voters from the more traditional Partido Popular Democratico and the Partido Nuevo Progresista. will these disaffected voters be enough to rock the boat of the establish ruling party on the island? Check out Umpierre’s views.
Enjoy your week on Latinopia!
