THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: RICARDO ROMO ON OSCAR CASTILLO PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE CHICANO EXPERIENCE, OSCAR CASTILLO’S LATINO MUSEUM EXHIBIT, APPRECIATING A MASTER PHOTOGRAPHER AND LIZ GONZALEZ WEIGHS IN DANCING IN THE SANTA ANA WINDS.
This week we turn our attention to photography and and particular the work of premiere photographer of the Chicano experience, Oscar Castillo. As Ricardo Romo notes in great detail in his Tejano Report, Oscar has been documenting the Chicano experience for more than fifty years. Complimenting Romo’s insightful and illuminating essay we are also posting a video on an exhibit of Oscar Castillo’s photography at the Latino Museum in Los Angeles in 2012.
And Jesús Treviño who has known Oscar Castillo for more than fifty years, weighs in with an appreciation for a master photographer.
Also this week we feature Chicana poet Liz Gonzalez reading the title poem from her collection Dancing in the Santa Ana Winds.
Enjoy your week on Latinopia
