THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: STEVE SALAS PRESENTE! WATCH THE LATE GREAT STEVE SALAS SPEAKING ABOUT HIS EARLY START IN MUSIC, THEN WATCH STEVE AND HIS BROTHER RUDY AS THEY TALK ABOUT THE BIRTH OF THEIR GROUP TIERRA, THEIR HIT SINGLE “TOGETHER,” AND THEIR HISTORIC CONCERT AT CARNEGIE HALL NOT TO BE MISSED! ALSO RICARDO ROMO’S TEJANO REPORT ON LATINOS AT THE SUPER BOWL AND ALEJAMDRO MOLINA ON SAN VALENTIN.
It is with sadness that we announce that the legendary musician, singer and composer Steve Salas passed away on February 10, 2022. Steve, along with his older brother Rudy, who has also passed away, founded the Eastside music group Tierra. It’s a group that has entertained audiences for decades. Latinopia interviewed both brothers about their long lasting careers and musical impact and we are posting these video interviews here this week. First, there’s a interview with Steve alone, speaking about how he got his start in music. Then there are three interviews about how the group Tierra came about, the impact of their national hit “Together,” and both brothers taking about their once in a lifetime concert at New York’s Carnegie Hall. These videos are really worth watching.
Also this week Ricardo Romo returns with his Tejano Report. This week he profiles the book Latinos in American Football by Mario Longoria and Jorge Iber and reminds us to look for the Latinos playing in this week’s Super Bowl.
Lastly, we couldn’t resist posting this evergreen reading of a poem about San Valentin by poet Alejandro Molina.
