THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: TREVIÑO AND MURRAY GUEST BLOG: IS TRUMP PRESIDENCY THE NEW TWILIGHT ZONE? BURUNDANGA BORICUA ON PUERTORICAN INDEPENDENCE BY A TRUMP EXECUTIVE ORDER? RICARDO ROMO ON MUJERES DE AZTLAN EXHIBIT AND MIS PENSAMIENTOS WITH ALFREDO SANTOS OF LA VOZ.
In response to Donald Trump’s draconian actions that threaten the very basis of our democracy and freedoms, Latinopia is committed to offering counter narratives that remind us of the principles, institutions and laws upon which our nation was founded.
This week we post two such blogs. A guest blog by Jesús Treviño and Bobbi Murray examines Trump’s recent actions in light of the moral compass that was the genius of writer producer Rod Serling in his classic television series The Twilight Zone. (Episodes of The Twilight Zone are still available for viewing on Amazon Prime.) In the same counter-Trump spirit, La Voz editor and publisher Alfredo Santos raises the question: in light of all of Trump’s malicious and barbaric actions and decrees, what are we prepared to do about it?
Also this week, José M. Umpierre examines the most recent clamor on the island of Puerto Rico. The alboroto was brought about when a group of Puerto Ricans approached the White House with the proposal that Donald Trump, as President, should enact an executive order that would make Puerto Rico an independent nation by decree. In a Trump world where everything seems possible, from purchasing Greenland to annexing Canada, this decree would side-step all established judicial and political traditions and laws in the U.S. and the island. The plan even offers a financial formula that would save the United States government funds at the expense of the Puertorican people. Read all about it in Umpierre’s Burundanga Boricua del Zocotroco. We offer it in English and Spanish!
This week Ricardo Romo’s Tejano Report looks at the 16th annual Mujeres de Aztlan Exhibition at San Antonio’s Centro Cultural de Aztlan. The exhibit, “Mujeres Artistas: Iluminando El Futuro,” showcases the work of Liliana Wilson, Margaret Garcia, Naxieli Gomez, Suzy Gonzalez, Santa Barraza, Gloria Sanchez Hart, JuliaSantos Solomon, Veronica Castillo, Scherezade Garcia, and Maria and Manola Ramirez. Check out this great art!
Wow, what a lot of crazy stuff going on this week on Latinopia.
Enjoy!
