THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: FRANK BERUMEN ON RAMÓN NOVARRO, MYLÈNE MORENO ON THE CHICANO! SERIES, BURUNDANGA BORICUA ON PUERTO RICO’S DEBT CRISIS, DON FELIPE’S BRAVO ROAD ON DONALD TRUMP: PATRIOT, PETRIACH OR PETRARCH?
Hola Latinopians! This week we focus on cinema with two new videos. Film scholar and author Frank Javier Berumen, whose extensive body of work includes four books on Chicano/Latino cinema, reflects on the life and times of Ramón Novarro, arguably the first Latino Hollywood superstar. Documentary filmmaker Mylène Moreno remembers what it was like producing the first hour of the four-part PBS documentary series Chicano! History of the Mexican American Civil Rights Movement. Also this week, José Umpierre returns with his Burundanga Boricua blog, this week looking at the draconian cuts being imposed by the five-member “Junta” revamping Puerto Rico’s economy to the detriment of its citizens. And our regular blogger, Don Felipe De Ortego, returns with another erudite and thoughtful piece on Donald Trump’s anti-immigrant rhetoric.
Enjoy your week on Latinopia!
