THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: LATINOPIA HERO ROLANDO HINOJOSA SMITH BY RICARDO ROMO. ROLANDO HINOJOSA IN HIS OWN WORDS: KLAIL CITY, THE YOUNG WILL WRITE AND THE USELESS SERVANTS.
This week we suffered a deep loss in our national literary community. The legendary and prolific writer Rolando Hinojosa-Smith passed away on April 19th at the age of 93. Originally from the town of Mercedes, Texas, Rolando wrote about his town and its people in the mythical Klail City Y Sus Alrededores. His many works encompassed novels, short stories, and essays. In addition to being a prolific author, Rolando mentored many generations of younger authors, many of them Latinos who were inspired by his body of work and empowered to write about the Latino experience.
Dr. Ricardo Romo, A longtime friend of Rolando has written a remembrance as a Latinopia Hero article.
