Ah, it’s Memorial Day, bringing to mind the many Americans who have paid the ultimate price to safeguard our country. We begin this week with a reprint of an important article written by the late Dr. Felipe De Ortego y Gasca, a regular contributor to Latinopia for many years before his untimely death. Felipe summarizes the way in which Mexicans and Mexican Americans have defended our nation from the very beginning. Check out his thoughtful article.

Sal Baldenegro’s Political Salsa y Más returns this week with a look at how the Trump administration is striving to erase the hard fought victories of our Chicano and Latino communities. But, as Sal points out, our historical truths are NOT erasable. Dale gas, Sal!

Also this week, we reprise one of the late Sergio Hernandez’s Arnie and Porfi cartoon. This one remembering Memorial Day.

Also this week Ricardo Romo ‘s Tejano Report looks at a new exhibit of the work of acclaimed Texas artist Carmen Lomas Garza. This new retrospective is at the art gallery at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. Ricardo’s selections culled from her many original prints highlight why she is such an important artist in our community. Viva Carmen Lomas Garza!

And Mark Guerrero’s East L.A. Music Stories returns with an interview with George Delgado of the Eastside rock group, the Premiers. Remember Farmer John?
