THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: THE CHEECH ART MUSEUM OPENS! A LATINOPIA VIRTUAL TOUR OF THE EXHIBIT. PLUS CONTRIBUTING ARTISTS GASPAR ENRIQUEZ, SONIA ROMERO, CARLOS ALMARAZ, GILBERT “MAGU” LUJAN AND CÉSAR MARTÍNEZ.
This week marks a landmark in Chicano history. The opening of the first Southern California art museum devoted exclusively to Chicano art, artists and culture. Five years ago the Riverside Art Museum agreed to create a special museum to showcase the extensive art collection of acclaimed Chicano actor, director and social activist Cheech Marin. The new museum is called The Cheech and will house not only Cheech’s art collection but the works of many Latinos artists of the future. Check out Latinopia’s virtual tour of the exhibit.
Staying with the art theme, Ricardo Romo’s Tejano Report this week profiles contemporary artist and storyteller Xavier Garza.
Coinciding with the virtual tour of The Cheech, we report Latinopia profiles of several of the artists who are featuring in the Cheech collection. They include Gaspar Enriquez, Sonia Romero, Carlos Almaraz and César Martínez. These are only four of dozens of artists you’ll find in the Cheech exhibit and many of which can be found at the Latinopia art page: http://latinopia.com/category/latino-art/latinopia-art/
Celebrate Chicano art and visit The Cheech as soon as you can. The address is 3581 Mission Inn Avenue, Riverside, California, 92501.
Enjoy your week on Latinopia!
