Hola mis queridos Latinopians! Hey, October is on us! Fall and leaves and rain and wind and of course, at the end of the month…Dia De Los Muertos! But before we get there, there’s a lot of fun this week on Latinopia. First off our two videos this week focus on a new comedy independently produced by a terrific husband and wife producing team, Richard Montes and Jade Puga. Aguruphobia stars Pepe Serna and Jade Puga and is a rollicking look the world of agoraphobics, gurus and Latinas on the verge! Latinopia presents an interview with Richard Montes and Jade Puga talking about how they brought this zany concept to life. Also we feature a Latinopia Showcase of the trailer of the film. Not to be missed!
Our bloggers this week are Don Felipe with Bravo Road. This week he takes a considered look at the term “Hispanic.” What does it mean anyway? And how did this term come about? How does it differ from the term “Latino?”And what are the implications for all of us Latinos or Mexican Americans or Puerto Ricans or Cubans or Salvadorans…well there you go. Even discussing the discussing of it is complex! Check out this very thoughtful essay.
And our San Diego blogger Barbara Zaragoza continues in her five-part South Bay Compass series on Lowriders. Many have had a tendency to disregard lowriders as a cultural burp but check out Barbara’s heavily researched look at the origins and lifestyles of the lowrider phenomenon and how it represents an important part of what it means to be Chicano. Firme!
Angela Ortiz’s Photo of the Week this week is “End of a Bloom.”
Enjoy your week on Latinopia!
