THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: JOSÉ DELGADO ON LATINO MEDAL OF THE ARTS AT THE WHITE HOUSE, DON FELIPE ORTEGA ON: ARE WE REALLY ONE NATION OUT OF MANY? RUDOLFO ANAYA ON THE MEANING OF AZTLÁN AND WHAT IS AZTLÁN ANYWAY?
Hola Latinopians! Two weeks ago the President of the United States bestowed the National Medal for the Arts and the National Humanities Medal to several deserving Latinos including playwright and director Luis Valdez, authors Sandra Cisnreos and Rudolfo Anaya and Tex Mex musician Santiago Jimenez among others. Long time actor and theater activist José Delgado reflects on the ceremonies at the White House which he attended. Complimenting his guest blog, Latinopia posts an interview with Luis Valdez about the creation of the “Pachuco” character in his play Zootsuit, and a new recent interview with Rudolfo Anaya on the meaning of the term Aztlán and a video about the historical Aztlán. Previous attempts to secure an interview with Sandra Cisneros have sadly been unsuccessful.
Also this week, Don Felipe de Ortego returns with his regular blog, Bravo Road. This week he takes on the question of, do we, as Americans, have one nation made up of the many, e pluribus unum?
Enjoy your week on Latinopia!
