THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: THE COMING ELECTION AND PUERTO RICANS-NOT, RICARDO ROMO ON LATINO FILMS, ALFREDO SANTOS ON ELECTIONS IN TEXAS AND SAL BALDENEGRO ON TRUMP’S TAXES.
Que Hubo Gente! (Some of you may have to look up ). This week the election nears and we have two takes on it, one from our San Juan Puerto Rico blogger, Jose Umpierre (AKA El Zocotroco) and one from Alfredo Santos in Texas. El Zocotroco reminds us that the citizens of Puerto Rico, despite being U.S. citizens and subject to being drafted, paying taxes and all that comes with citizenship, CAN’T VOTE FOR THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES! Go figure! Don Alfredo in his Pensamientos opinion piece analyzes recent elections, particularly in Texas, and concludes that we have neither a Red Texas nor a Blue Texas, but a Texas where no one votes!
Sal Baldenegro reviews the recent revelations of Donald Trump’s tax payments where despite being a co-called billionaire, he only paid $750 dollars in taxes in 2017 and 2018 while hardworking Americans, including undocumented workers, continue to pay much more. Sal raises the question: who is the true patriot?
And Ricardo Romo’s Tejano Report offers a a suggestion on how to spend your time during the pandemic…watch Latino movies!
Wear your mask, keep a safe distance and enjoy your week on Latinopia!
