THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: POLITICAL SALSA Y MÁS WITH SAL BALDENEGRO ON VOTE YOUR VALUES, RICARDO ROMO ON DAY OF THE DEAD 2024, IGNACIO GOMEZ ON THE ZOOT SUIT POSTER AND OLGA GARCÍA ECHEVERRÍA ON “LINGUALISTIC ALGO”
Hola mis Latinopians! This week Sal Baldenegro’s insightful blog returns. This week Political Salsa y Más recommends we Vote your Values! Sal reviews how Trump and the MAGA-Trumpers have defined a new low in human values. He points to the need for us to affirm the positive values that we represent and that reflect the values of our Latino communities nationwide. Check out his thoughtful piece.
Also this week Ricardo Romo’s Tejano Report takes an early look at the annual Day of the Dead celebrations. As always Ricardo’s posting is reflective of his broad knowledge of Chicano art and of the Día de los Muertos celebrations.
This week we reprise Ignacio Gomez’s look at how he came to create the famous poster for the play Zoot Suit. Ignacio is truly one of the most gifted artists of our community and, indeed, of the United States. And Ignacio keeps going. In November of 2024 he will be unveiling a new sculpture of Cheech Marin at the Cheech Museum in Riverside. Can’t wait to see it!
And poet Olga García Echeverría reads her poem “Lingualistic Algo.” The reading is from her appearance at the 2010 Flor y Canto festival held at USC.
Enjoy your week on Latinopia!
