THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: TO CELEBRATE DÍA DE LA RAZA, FRANCISCO X. ALARCON READS TWO POEMS IN SPANISH, ENGLISH AND NAHUATL, SAL BALDENEGRO’S POLITICAL SALSA ON YAQUI MUSICIAN GABRIEL AYALA, RICARDO ROMO ON MASTER SCULPTOR JESÚS MOROLES AND JOSÉ MURATTI ON “HERESY: DONALD WE ARE ALL TRUMP.”
Hola my peeps! This week we celebrate Dia de la Raza (known in the United States as Columbus Day). In Latin American countries as well as in the United States, Latinos know this date, when the European people met Native American people for the first time, as the Day of the Race, the day that the mestizo race was born. We celebrate here with two poems by the late poet Francisco X. Alarcon, read in English, Spanish and Nahuatl. Check it out!
Also this week, Sal Baldenegro returns with his Political Salsa y Más, this week he introduces us to Gabriel Ayala, a celebrated Yaqui Indian guitarist, musician and social activist who is leaving a living legacy of activism on behalf of native peoples.
Also this week, Ricardo Romo introduces us to acclaimed sculptor Jesús Moroles. Though based in Rockport, Texas, Moroles is a world class sculptor whose works are on exhibit throughout the world. Check out this guy’s cool sculptures.
And from San Juan Puerto Rico, José E. Muratti-Toro takes a look at Trump’s blatant excesses in his Spanish language article, “Herejia: Donlad Todos Somos Trump.” (Heresy: Donald We Are All Trump)
ENJOY YOUR WEEK ON LATINOPIA!
