Lots of vareiety this week. We begin with a visit with Vietnam veteran Charley Trujillo who has written the book Soldados: Chicanos in Vietnam and is now working on a feature length drama based on his war experiences, Dogs from Illusion. Charley made an amazing documentary based on his Vietnam book and this new narrative film project portends to be really something. Check out this interview with Charley. Se avienta el vato!
Ricardo Romo returns with his Tejano Report. This week he looks at the work of artists Kaitlyn de la Garza, Jesus Trevino, Andy Benavides, Bibiana Camargo and others. Check out the stunning work on exhibit as part of the Hispanic Month recognition.
Also this week Mark Guerrero’s East L.A. Music Stories returns with an interview with guitarist John Valaenzuela who has performed in Leon & the Leisures and The Cassinos in the 60s and played with Mark Guerrero from 1971 through ’74 in The Mudd Brothers and Tango (A&M Records). Check out the interview and discover how early Chicano music was born.
And lastly, join Juan Tejeda and his group Conjunto Aztlan as they return with their rendition of an original song by José Flores Peregrino, Desafinado. Check out these cool sounds.
