THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA 11.05.17

November 4, 2017 by Tia Tenopia

THIS WEEK ON LATINOPIA: THELMA REYNA ON FAILURE WITH PUERTO RICO, DIANE RODRIGUEZ ON LATINO THEATER PENSAMIENTOS WITH ALFREDO SANTOS, CHICANO MUSIC CHRONICLES HIGHLIGHTS CHAN ROMERO, AND TEATRO ENCUENTRO,  AND, OF COURSE, SERG HERNÁNDEZ ON THE CURSE OF THE DODGERS.

What up rockin’ Latinopians! Lots going on this week beginning with Encuentro de Las Americas, a three-week long theater extravaganza  taking  place at the Los Angeles Theater Center in Los Angeles. Fourteen different theater performances, from teatro companies from New York, Cuba, Peru. Colombia, Canada, Texas and Los Angeles will take place over a period of three weeks from November 2nd to 19th. For full details on the event and the theater plays to be performed  go here: https://www.encuentrodelasamericas.org/   But to give a sense of what’s in store, check out the Latinopia Video Encuentro 2014 which showcases what went on in 2014. Also Diane Rodriguez, Associate Artistic Director of the Los Angeles Center Theater Group, speaks about the growing importance of Latino Theater in America in her video interview. Latino Theater is alive and doing quite well thank you! Be sure to check out these cool videos.

Also this week, Dr. Thelma Reyna blogs on the current state of affairs in Puerto Rico and how Trump failed that island nation. And don’t miss the heroism of San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz in Thelma’s special poem to Mayor Cruz. Also this week, Mark Guerrero returns with his Chicano Music Chronicles, this week (and, indeed, for the whole month) an interview with pioneering rock musician Chan Romero, whose music was embraced by the Beatles as they were just getting their start.  And from Austin, Texas, Alfredo Santos, editor of La Voz magazine, visits with his monthly Pensamientos column. And no week would be complete without a Sergio Hernández cartoon, this week it’s all about the Dodgers.

Enjoy your week on Latinopia!
